The Council of the European Union, at its meeting on 18 May, the first in a face-to-face format since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, adopted Conclusions on Sport Innovation.
According to the Portuguese Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, these conclusions aim to “invite and guide all relevant stakeholders to contribute to the mainstreaming of innovation in sport in all dimensions and at all levels”, adding that “in the context of public policies, a holistic approach to innovation in sport must be adopted”.
The document, which was discussed during the semester, in the Working Party on Sport for the Portuguese Presidency at the Sports Group level, launches a set of invitations to Member States, the European Commission, Sport Movement and other relevant organisations, among other areas, to support and promote research and development in sport innovation, mechanisms for assessing sport innovation, and to promote and support co-creation and inter-sectoral and inter-institutional cooperation.
